Local SOS members will be interested — Sheila Malcolmson seeks NDP nomination

I’ve pasted Sheila’s announcement and photograph here, in case any of you/us missed it.

Spring’s in the air and I’m sowing seeds.

Dear island friends,

With so much at stake right now, I want to represent our coastal communities federally, so I’m seeking the NDP nomination in the Nanaimo – Ladysmith riding.

Please come to ArtWorks in Folklife Village, Tomorrow, March 24th at 3pm to help me celebrate this start.

For ten years Jean Crowder has been our loyal Member of Parliament; she’ll retire when her term ends in October 2015, and I’d love to carry on her work. NDP members will vote soon on who will represent the party in the 2015 federal election.

I’m grateful that Gabriola, Mudge and DeCourcy Islands have elected me four times as their trustee, and I’ve really been honoured to work with the community and my fellow trustees to carry out the Islands Trust’s preserve and protect mandate. I will keep being your dedicated trustee and Trust Council chair until the term ends in November.

Based on what I’ve learned, from serving you here locally, I feel our biggest challenges are from the actions of this federal government. In order to continue safeguarding the coast we love, I must address this threat at its source in Ottawa.

I wanted to let fellow islanders know first what my intentions are, before the official nomination process begins.

Thanks in advance for your questions, advice and support. Hope to see you for cookies and tea, 3pm Tomorrow at Artworks.

With thanks, Sheila
